Ashley Duggan (PhD University of California, Santa Barbara) has been in Boston since 2004 and enjoys walking the marathon route from downtown to Boston College, where she is Professor of Communication. She just completed a Fulbright Visiting Professor Fellowship in Medical Sciences / Medical Education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) University of Medicine and Health Sciences, where her project connects relationship science and human communication research with positive health sciences. Ashley is also co-director of a new BRANCH initiative for Building Relationship science for Advanced Networks in Communication and Health and Director of Research Partnerships in the Department of Family Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Her past leadership in IARR including hosting a new scholars’ workshop, co-chairing the academic program committee, and serving as Associate Editor for Personal Relationships. Ashley was recently awarded the IARR Berscheid-Hatfield Distinguished Mid-Career Award, as well as the Gerald R. Miller Outstanding Book Award for a monograph for her (2019) Health and Illness in Close Relationships book, given by the Interpersonal Division of the National Communication Association.

Fun Fact: Ashley, Elizabeth, and Jeff all connect through Boston College. Ashley as faculty-Elizabeth from undergraduate days, and Jeff as a PhD student.

Elizabeth M. Glowacki (PhD University of Texas at Austin) is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Health Sciences and the Department of Communication Studies at Northeastern University. Her research interests lie in health communication, message design, persuasion, and mobile health. Her work has appeared in Substance Abuse, Journal of Health Communication, Journal of Language and Social Psychology, and American Journal of Infection Control. She is also the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lead for the School of Community Health and Behavioral Sciences in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences. Elizabeth spends a lot of time walking through the Boston Public Garden and the Boston Common, and is happy to provide recommendations for walking routes throughout the Back Bay and Beacon Hill.

(PhD Boston College) is an Assistant Professor of Gerontology at the University of Massachusetts Boston. His research interests include older couples, marriage and intergenerational relationships, and social determinants of health. Originally from the Boston area, he’s all too happy to tell you how about great restaurants and attractions that no longer exist, and is almost as happy to tell you what is still of interest in the city today!

Danielle A. Thompson (BS/MPH Northeastern University) is a graduate of Northeastern University who has served as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Health Sciences and the Department of Communication Studies. Her research interests lie in health design thinking, health communication, social determinants of health, and system transformation. Danielle enjoys walking along the Charles River Esplanade and going to Fenway Park. She loves going on Boston Duck Tours and is happy to answer any questions about them!
